Jaipur – The Secrets of the Pink City, India

{EN} India! {37} Two months later and I still can`t believe it. India was the best thing that happened to us after our wedding. Sticked for so long on our bucket list, India was a dream… and dreams come true. The day we bought the tickets made me so happy, I knew from that instance, good or not, is gonna be a life experience. If the image that springs to mind when you think of India is colorful sarees, crowded streets, and delicious spicy food well, you’re not wrong. But all of those things are just a part of India’s appeal. You decide what you want for your trip: majestic indian hotels and fancy restaurants or a closer look to the beauty of the culture, unbelievable monuments, hindu temples, handmade work, traditional markets and the spirituality of the locals. We dreamed of all these things for too long.

We landed in Delhi by night and even after 8 hours flight, with all that excitement, we could easily go for a sightseeing. December in Delhi was warm and nice, but still polluted. In Delhi we have very close friends and the days we planned there would be to spend with them. Once in bed, I couldn’t hear the noisy streets anymore, I fell asleep whispering to my husband – “we did it, we are in India.”

Next day, after masala tea and indian breakfast, we left for Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state. Raju, our driver welcomed us with a warm smile and a funny accent (he was so polite, oh my god, it just kept reminding me that we dont know to be like that anymore). After 5h of driving, finally reached clear blue sky and our first planned destination – Jaipur … Jaipur is the city of romance and inspiration, not to mention that the place is literally pink, everywhere, it`s like a pink heaven. By the way pink color in India is the symbol of welcoming and hospitality.

To live out my most romantic fantasies with India, first day in Jaipur I wore an indian suit, all in gold, absolutely beautiful clothes. Everybody on the streets would look at us… ok at my sari, so many asked for photos and selfies. At the beginning you feel flattered and let them click some pictures with you which is perfectly fine. But then you realize you cant keep doing that.  So you have to say nicely “no” to them. But I kept some of those photos with strangers, strangers that want to meet you, to talk and touch you. Wow, I think I miss India a lot right now.

There are so many things to do in Jaipur. Some of the most iconic places to visit in Jaipur are: Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds; City Palace; Amber Fort, Jawahar Circle or Birla Mandir Temple. You can spend easily 4 days here, strolling through the market stalls, pink streets and majestic palaces. You keep shooting every corner of the city because is just amazing what you see. We had a full-day guide with us, which I totally recommend in India. A guide here is always a good idea, it`s just because you can`t miss all those love stories they keep telling you about maharajas and maharanis (queens). And if love stories are not really your thing, food definitely is what you should go next.

I fell in love with this city. Unforgettable!
